LEPHALALE (former Ellisras) is well known for its wealth of energy resources. Exxaro's Grootgeluk Coal MIne is the largest mine of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The Matimba Power Station, the largest dry-cooled power station in the world and the new Greenfields Power Station, Medupe, are powering the economic growth in Lephalale.
